Blood Donation Drive-2025

11 Years of Life, Love & Legacy — Indian Association of China

Dear Community Members,

The 11th Annual Indian Community Blood Donation Drive – Bridging Cultures, Saving Lives was held at the Shanghai Blood Center on Hongqiao Road on Sunday, 7th September 2025

Organized by the Indian Association of China in partnership with the Shanghai Municipal Health authorities, the event once again embodied the spirit of compassion and solidarity.

We were honored by the presence of Mr. Pratik Mathur, Consul General of India in Shanghai, who praised the Indian diaspora’s consistent contributions to public welfare in the city. In his address, he remarked: This initiative is a shining example of India’s friendship with Shanghai and the shared values of humanity that unite us. Every drop of blood donated is not just a gift of life, but also a bridge of care, compassion, and solidarity between our peoples.

With the theme Bridging Cultures – Saving Lives, this year’s campaign drew 63 donors, collecting 92 units of whole blood and 2 units of platelets. Beyond the numbers, the day was a celebration of shared humanity.

Over the past 11 years, this initiative has grown into a hallmark of Shanghai’s public welfare landscape, with 1,478 Indian participants contributing more than 2,115 blood servings (1 serving = 200ml). This makes it the largest and longest-running blood donation campaign by a single expatriate community in the city’s history.

For many, Shanghai has become a true “second hometown.” Today’s drive brought together long-time residents who have lived in the city for decades, as well as new arrivals who donated blood in Shanghai for the very first time. The atmosphere was warm and inclusive: seasoned donors proudly carried their certificates, while first-time participants arrived with nervous excitement, soon reassured by the professionalism of the medical staff.

Entire families participated. Some members donated blood, while others—especially children—joined as volunteers, helping maintain order and assisting with bilingual registration. More than 28 Indian students from 11 international schools, alongside 11 Chinese students, worked tirelessly to guide donors through the process in both English and Chinese. Their energy and commitment symbolized the continuity of this tradition across generations.

A heartfelt gratitude to the Government Orgnisations , our Sponsors , our  partners and Community  partners , who are supporting us  since   we  started the  Blood  donation drive event back in 2014.
